Welcoming New Leadership at the Department of Mental Health

Mississippi State Hospital

DMH is announcing leadership transitions at two of our facilities this month. Amy Carruth of Brandon, pictured left, has been named the next Director of Mississippi State Hospital, succeeding longtime director James G. “Bo” Chastain, who is retiring after 36 years of service. Carruth brings more than 14 years at MSH, most recently as Director of Quality Assurance and Deputy Hospital Administrator, with a focus on policy development and modernizing hospital operations. Chastain leaves a legacy of steady leadership, including MSH’s Joint Commission accreditation since 2000 and ongoing work to expand forensic behavioral health services statewide.

Boswell Regional Center

At Boswell Regional Center, Ricky Grimes of Mize, pictured right, has been named Director, following the retirement of Clint Ashley after nearly 10 years leading BRC. Grimes has served BRC since 2014 in several leadership roles, including Assistant Director, and brings 26 years of prior service in the U.S. Air Force. Ashley’s nearly 25-year career with DMH includes leadership at South Mississippi State Hospital before his appointment at Boswell in 2017, where he was recognized for his commitment to helping Mississippians with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independent, fulfilling lives.

“We are sad to say goodbye to two leaders who have shaped our agency for the better,” DMH Executive Director Wendy Bailey said, “but we’re confident in the strong foundations Amy and Ricky inherit, and excited for what’s ahead under their leadership.”
